Flexibility

Cognitive flexibility is the “ability to think flexibly and to shift approaches” and is crucial for successful reading, writing, math problem solving, note-taking, studying, and test-taking (Meltzer, 2018, p. 274-276).

What do flexibility difficulties look like in the classroom?

  • A student who resists trying new strategies.
  • A student who is unable to see a situation in more than one way.
  • A student who gets upset when things do not go as planned.
