Goal setting includes “identifying short-term and long-term objectives” or “figuring out a purpose and end-point” (Meltzer, 2018, p. 265). When students with ADHD do not have specific and appropriate goals, they will find it difficult to behave appropriately and productively (Johnson & Reid, 2011, p. 64).

What do goal setting difficulties look like in the classroom?
- A student’s grades do not reflect what they are capable of.
- A student who is unsure of what they are supposed to do next.
- The student lacks motivation for what they are working towards.
