Discuss the plan for the day as a whole class during the morning meeting.
Chunking is a strategy that breaks down tasks into smaller, more manageable “chunks”. Doing this makes processing information easier for students, by allowing them to complete projects one step at a time.
- Break larger reading assignments into shorter passages
- Graphic organizers
- Cut math fact worksheets into strips, reducing the number of problems students are seeing at once

Develop a plan with the student to complete an assignment.
Large assignments, such as writing an essay, can be broken down into steps.
- First, the student will start with brainstorming and outlining activities.
- Then, the student can write the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion as separate activities.
- Finally, each step can be put together to form the final product (Hodgkinson & Parks, 2016, p. 212).
